Carmel, CA Private Duty Caregiving and Home Health Aide Jobs Booming
by Richard Kuehn on 10/12/12
I was not surprised to read the headline Health care jobs boom as Boomers age in USA Today. Baby boomers are retiring at the amazing rate of 10,000 per day, and as they get older, they need more in-home help. The article said that home health aides and private duty caregivers are the fastest growing category, with registered nurses, pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and physical therapists also in high demand. Job postings on Monster.com for physical therapists and physician assistants jumped 13% in June of 2012, according to the web site. Another issue impacting this demand is that many people that are in these types of jobs now are also approaching retirement. We find this is true. At Family inHome Caregiving, most of our applicants are either quite young or fairly mature, with not as many in their middle age. This is good news for the U.S. economy. Many manufacturing, office labor like data entry and service jobs like call centers have been outsourced overseas because of their lower labor costs. But there is no way to substitute cheap labor for home health aides or private duty caregivers like those that work for us. Our clients want high quality people who are well trained and friendly, and our workers are here to stay. A recent report put out by the Bureau of Labor Statistics said that home health and personal care aides are expected to grow by 70%. Now that's a career that is here to stay.
