Salinas, CA CHP, DMV Hosting A Class For Seniors On Driving Safely And Longer

by Richard Kuehn on 07/08/12

Convincing seniors that it is no longer safe to drive is an extremely difficult task.  The loss of independence can be heart breaking. But sometimes there is no other option.  I was happy to see that the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), Office of Traffic Safety and the California Highway Patrol will be delivering a workshop for seniors, presented by CHP Officer Robert Lehman on August 28 in Salinas.  He will talk to seniors about normal age related changes and how to adjust to them in a 2.5 hour workshop.  By getting seniors to go to something like this while they can still drive safely, it may make them more prepared to voluntarily give up their drivers license when that time comes.  Going to the class will also get them a certificate which they can submit to their insurance company and it may qualify them for a safe drivers discount.  Space is limited for this class, so please contact Michell Lopez at 655-4241 if you or someone you love would like to attend.
