A New Use For Drones : Carrying Defibrillators To Those In A Medical Emergency
The medical community has come up with yet another use for drones—carrying defibrillators to those having a heart attack or other medical emergency requiring defibrillation.  Researchers have tested the concept and found that drones could arrive on the scene of cardiac arrest within five minutes of launch, almost 17 minutes faster than when an ambulance was sent.  Cardiac arrest kills more than 6 million people per year and often happen at home or in other non-medical setting, and most don’t

Bad News For Seniors That Love French Fries
There is bad news for french fry lovers.  An eight year study of 4,400 older people which was published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that those who ate french fries or hash browns more than two times per week were at least twice as likely to die prematurely than those who were non partakers.  Unfried versions like baked or mashed potatoes weren’t linked with mortality. Being Overweight And having Diabetes Is A Dangerous Combination
A new study which was published in the Journal Diabetologia found that having Type 2 Diabetes and being obese puts you at risk of dementia.  The study looked at two groups of people, half of which were a normal weight and the other half which were overweight or obese.  Both groups showed some deterioration of several brain regions like the temporal lobe.  However, brain deterioration was significantly worse among those who were obese or overweight. Salt Leads To Obesity, And Can Cause Other Unexpected Health Problems
We all know that eating too much salt is not good for us but it’s hard to avoid it given the amount that is put in most processed and fast foods.  A recent study which was published in the Journal of Clinical Investigation found, not surprisingly, that when presenting participants with three different diet regimens, the ones who followed the one with the most salt in it gained the most weight.  However, surprisingly, the saltiest diets made people the most hungry and those in the high salt diet

Losing Weight Can Help Those With Osteoarthritis
Millions of Americans have osteoarthritis, which causes the cartilage in joints such as the knee to deteriorate.  Weight loss, however, has been shown to slow the progression of this debilitating condition.  Researchers followed 640 overweight or obese people with the condition for four years and MRI scans showed that participants who lost weight of 10% or more had the healthiest knees.  Those losing 5-10% of their body weight also saw some improvement.  About Richard Kuehn and Family inHome
