    A group of U.C. Berkeley students have invented a digital stethoscope which transfers a patient’s heart rate and other vital signs to the company’s secure portal where the data can be shared with other physicians for a second opinion.  Over 700 hospitals now use the technology which was developed by the company Eko Devices.  Next up for the company is a device called the duo which is for home use.  Small enough to fit into the palm of your hand, it combines electrocardiogram, or E.K.G. readings

    Glen Campbell Passes Away After Battling Against Alzheimer’s Disease
    Glen Campbell passed away today at the age of 81 after fighting a brave battle against Alzheimer’s disease.  In 2011, Campbell and his wife announced that he was suffering from Alzheimer’s disease but would still release a new album and go on a Goodbye Tour while he could still perform.  Will Hermes of Rolling Stone reviewed the album and wrote “baroquely arranged drama that echoes his string-swelled seventies hit…Dude’s definitely not going out softly.”  Campbell played his final Nashville show

    Sedentary Women’s Body Cells Eight Years Older Than Active Women Of The Same Age
    A recent study which was published in the American Journal of Epidemiology found that postmenopausal women who don’t exercise have body cells that are biologically about eight years older than those of women who exercise regularly.  For the study, 162K women between the ages of 50-79 wore an active measuring device and those who spent 10 or more hours a day sitting or lying down had shorter telomeres than did those with less than eight sedentary hours per day.  Telomeres are the caps at the tips

    Stick With Your Exercise Routine If You Have Arthritis, Even If It Seems Tedious
    It can be tough exercising regularly when you have arthritis.  However, it’s imperative that you stick with it to keep your mobility.  A recent study which was published in the journal Arthritis Care & Research of 1,629 adults age 49 and older with joint pain, achiness and stiffness found that those who exercised for at least 45 minutes per week were able to walk faster and had better daily function than those who exercised less often.  Talk to your physician about what’s the best exercise plan
